What Is the DoorBird Fingerprint 50?

The Fingerprint 50 is DoorBird's biometric access module, integrated directly into the D1101FV and D1102FV front panel video doorbells. It's not an add-on or afterthought — the fingerprint sensor is built into the same stainless steel unit as the camera, speaker, and microphone.

Pressing your finger to the sensor triggers the relay output (connected to your electric door strike or smart lock) in under one second. The system stores up to 50 individual fingerprints — enough for a large family, regular cleaners, a dog walker, and a few guests.

Key fact: The Fingerprint 50 works independently of your internet connection. Fingerprints are stored on the device itself. If your router goes down, residents can still enter using their fingerprint. Only app management and cloud recording require connectivity.

How It Works

  1. Enroll fingerprints via the free DoorBird app (Settings → Access Control → Fingerprints)
  2. The app guides you through a 5-scan enrollment process per finger
  3. Assign a name/label to each fingerprint (e.g., "Sarah — left index")
  4. When a registered finger is pressed, the relay triggers instantly
  5. The event is logged in the app with a timestamp and a HD snapshot
  6. You can remove any fingerprint remotely at any time — instantly revokes access

Fingerprint Reliability in Real Conditions

The most common concern about outdoor fingerprint readers is wet hands and cold weather. DoorBird's Fingerprint 50 is rated IP65 — the same as the rest of the unit — and the sensor is tested for reliable operation in rain, morning dew, and winter temperatures.

For backup access, the D1101FV can also be opened remotely via the app (in case a fingerprint fails to read). The D1101KV model adds a PIN keypad as a second factor if you want belt-and-suspenders security.

Tip: Enroll 2 fingers per person (e.g., both index fingers). If one hand is full of groceries, the other works. The system stores up to 50 total scans across all users.

Who Is This For?

  • Families who are tired of giving physical keys to kids — enroll their fingerprints instead
  • Homeowners with regular service staff — give the cleaner fingerprint access with a log of every entry
  • People who frequently lose keys — eliminate the problem at the source
  • Airbnb/short-term rental hosts — enroll guests on arrival, delete instantly on checkout
  • Small offices or studios needing keyless entry for staff without a full access control system
